Ghost Town: film, photograph, memory and the present
Friday October 8, 10am-5pm,
AGL Theatre, Museum of Sydney, Bridge St Sydney
A one day symposium at which writers, researchers, historians and
filmmakers will discuss and explore some of the potent attractions and
pointed anxieties surrounding the uses of archive film and photographs.
A keynote address will be given by writer Luc Sante, whose Low Life:
Lures and Snares of Old New York (1991) led to a renewed enthusiasm for
lost histories of the modern city. His subsequent Evidence (1992)
helped create a worldwide interest in the archive forensic photograph.
Other participants include Dominique Angeloro (Sydney Morning Herald),
Dan Angeloro, (UNSW), Lindsay Barrett (UWS), Matthew Connell (Powerhouse
Museum), Peter Doyle (Macquarie University), Susan Doyle (UTS), Caroline
Mackaness, (Museum of Sydney), Alec Morgan (Macquarie University), Caleb
Williams (Justice and Police Museum).
GHOST TOWN will be of particular interest to media students and
scholars, writers, artists, photographers, archivists, museologists,
historians, and anyone fascinated with Sydney's past.
